1. What is the best area to stay in New Orleans?
The French Quarter is definitely the heart of the city, and there are many great restaurants and attractions within easy walking distance of any French Quarter hotel. If you are looking for a quieter stay, you may want to consider one of the more outlying areas, such as the Garden District or Convention Center and Arts District. Return To Top

2. When is the best time to visit New Orleans?
New Orleans has festivals and other great events happening all the time, so there is always something to do when visiting. Summer months are hot and humid, but many hotels offer deals during this time, so if can be ideal for a family vacation. The December holiday season offers milder weather and also has hotels offering special rates. Check out our ‘Events’ page for a detailed listing of all that is going on in New Orleans year-round. 3. Is New Orleans ready for visitors after Hurricane Katrina?
The French Quarter, Convention Center/Arts District, Central Business District and Garden District/Uptown were spared the brunt of Katrina’s devastation, and look the same today as they did before the storm, if not better. Some outlying areas may still be in the recovery stages, be sure to check with your hotel directly if you have any concerns. A ‘Katrina Tour’ can offer a fascinating and educational look at the areas that suffered the most loss, but it is also perfectly easy to stay on Bourbon Street and feel no impact from the storm at all. 4. Should I rent a car/drive in New Orleans?
New Orleans streets are usually very narrow, many being single lanes and one-way. Staying in the French Quarter or adjacent districts puts many of the best attractions an easy walk or short cab ride away, so driving is not recommended unless you are already very familiar with the city. Additionally, hotel parking is often very costly in New Orleans, with space being at a premium, and it is not unusual for parking fees to be upwards of $25 a night. Return To Top

5. Is New Orleans 'family-friendly'?
New Orleans is much more than just the bawdy atmosphere of Bourbon Street, offering fantastic attractions for both the young and young-at-heart. The Aquarium of the Americas and IMAX Theater are located right along the Mississippi River at the base of Canal Street and Riverboat rides up the river to the Audubon Zoo provide relaxation and fun. See the alligators on an adventurous Swamp Tour, or take an after-dark Ghost Tour of the French Quarter with older children. Return To Top

6. How can I get to my hotel from the Airport?
Most hotels DO NOT offer an airport shuttle service to and from the airport. There is however an Airport Shuttle kiosk at the airport where you can sign up for a reasonably priced ride to most centrally located hotels. Cabs are another option, simply go to the taxi stand located outside the Baggage Check area and a clerk will assign a cab to you. There is a flat free for one or two people from the airport to all French Quarter and downtown hotels. Hotels in outlying areas may incur higher fares. Return To Top

7. Why do hotels sometimes require deposits to make a reservation?
During Special Event periods such as Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest, most New Orleans hotels will require either a partial or full deposit to hold a room. This is due to higher demand over those time frames. Smaller properties such as bed and breakfasts will also sometimes require advance deposits due to their limited number of rooms. The property wants to make sure you are committed to staying with them as it can be hard to sell a room at the last minute, in the event of a cancellation. Return To Top

8. Why do hotels sometimes require a minimum night stay to make a reservation?
During Special Event periods such as Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest, most New Orleans hotels will require visitors to commit to stays of three nights or longer. Many properties in the highly desirable French Quarter also require at least a two night stay on weekends throughout the year. This is due to increased demand over these time periods. Return To Top

9. Where/how can I get the best price for my hotel stay?
Most hotels set their rates the same no matter if you call them on the phone or book online. To get the best price, be sure to book as far in advance as possible, as hotel prices tend to go up as more rooms sell, much like airfare does. If you are not happy with the price for a particular hotel over a particular date, check alternate dates if possible, perhaps you are looking over a high-demand period and the next weekend could be half the price. Hotel rates in New Orleans cover a wide range - $49 deals can be found during low periods, but it is not unusual to pay over $200 for a room during a busy time. Return To Top

10. Why are some hotels so much cheaper/more expensive than others?
There are many factors involved in this, and often it has nothing to do with the quality of a property. Some hotels are just more aggressive with trying to sell their rooms, while other properties will sit empty waiting for a higher rate. Pre-booked groups staying at a particular property can also drive the occupancy and thus the price up over some time periods. If a low price seems too good to be true, check hotel reviews to assure the quality of the property. If a high price is putting you off, see if you can find a hotel in the same area with similar amenities at a better deal. Return To Top
